It’s Honey Season at Sky Park Farm

Sky Park Farm is abuzz! It’s all about honey this summer. For honey experts or lovers, don’t miss out on events and activities all in celebration of bees and honey.

10th September – Petersfield BeeKeepers Association 80th Annual Honey Show & Awards – hosted at Sky Park Farm.

Open to amateurs and professionals alike, or just the curious, this annual gathering of local beekeepers celebrates all things bee! Experts are available to chat through beekeeping and there will be displays of forage suitable for honey bees and other pollinators. With many award categories, judging will take place between 10am and 1pm, with a final presentation at 3.45pm. Those who would like to submit entries will be asked to contact davidparkinson288@btinternet.com. The full schedule is available here to download, from the Petersfield Beekeepers Association or from the Visitor Centre at Sky Park Farm.

Observation Beehive – for those who would just like to see some bees buzzing, don’t miss out on our unique Observation Beehive.

In this photo you’ll see the Queen Bee in our Observation Beehive, can you spot her attendants surrounding and protecting her? We now have 23 beehives across the Farm, looked after by our resident beekeeper, David. The summer honey harvest has just arrived in the Farm Shop and David describes the honey as having a “smooth mellow taste with a slightly fruity finish”. As the hives mature into strong colonies more and more honey will be available in the Farm Shop. Cold filtered and additive free Sky Park Farm Honey is not blended or heated and may crystallise, which is a natural process of pure honey. The combination of the nectar collected during the season gives the taste significant depth. The Farm Shop also supplies honey from other local, ethical beekeepers.
